NEW YORK--"Encino Man" kicks off the silly summer season with mindless would-be comedy aimed at the younger set. The real life pool sits horizontal to the home, while the pool in the movie was situated perpendicularly. This is the best the film has ever looked, and is light years superior to the laserdisc, which sucked big time.

The film launched more roles for Fraser as a bumbling action-movie hero and he pulls off the role wonderfully. (For reasons wholly inexplicable to any rational human being with an IQ over 50, Pauly Shore subsequently went on to become a star). The plot revolves around two geeky teenagers from Encino, Los Angeles, California, played by Astin and Shore, who discover a caveman in Morgan's backyard frozen in a block of ice. Between Fraser's innocent silliness and co-star Pauly Shore's Weasel schtick, the movie's good-hearted goofiness is infectious. It was known for its size and longevity.
